Who are the IRC?
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas. We deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always seeking to address the inequalities facing women and girls.
Why did we choose them?
I'm sure you've read plenty about this but for the latest stats: At least 5,100 deaths were recorded in Derna and more than 7,000 people in the city were injured. The number of deaths was likely to increase since teams are still collecting bodies. At least 9,000 people are missing and at least 30,000 people in Derna were displaced by the flooding.
These are stats from Associated Press, taken from the U.N.’s International Organization for Migration. Derna is just one of a number cities affected by the floods, so these numbers are higher if take those other cities into account.
Amount Given
£152.00 was the initial donation made to the IRC. For any more information, feel free to reach out to us or you can read more about them here.
