Maui Food Bank
Who are Maui Food Bank?
Maui Food Bank are a charity operating in the area of Maui, Hawaii that typically provides food to those in need. They have a pre-existing distribution network in place but have expanded their offering beyond food to cater to the needs of those affected by the fires. Toiletries and basic hygiene supplies are being distributed, alongside baby supplies and female sanitary products.
Alongside this, they're recognised and highly rated by Charity Navigator, and provide research that shows how 93% of funds donated get used for aid (the other 5% go to fundraising expenses and 2% to admin expenses).
Why did we choose them?
I'm sure many of you have read about the catastrophic fires in Maui County, Hawaii, but if not, they're the deadliest fires in US history. 115 people have died as of the end of August, with over 300 still unaccounted for. Over 2,000 homes have been destroyed and almost 5,000 people have been displaced. All stats here have been pulled from the BBC and CNN.
As well as this, around 80% of the total income of Maui comes through tourism. With the devastation caused by the fires, it's highly likely that this source of income will be affected (this stat comes from Time magazine).
Amount Given
£149.59 was the initial donation made to Maui Food Bank. For any more information, feel free to reach out to us or you can read more about them here.
